Review: Radio Silence

Radio Silence
Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK.

First off, it is cute and fluffy, but also gets dark and deep. It pays homage to one of my favorite podcasts, Welcome to Night Vale andā€¦.guysā€¦..THEREā€™S A CANON ASEXUAL CHARACTER and not only that, this character has struggles with their mother being abusive as fuck, just like i do.

Furthermore, the word ā€œagenderā€, MY GENDER IDENTITY is smack dab right there in a printed book.

Thereā€™s a platonic relationship and it is the most amazing thing EVER, proving that people can VERY MUCH BE ā€œjust friendsā€ without wanting any romantic implications on their relationship.

I could honestly gush about this book for hours. it’s a 2017 favorite for sure!

Review: Hunted

Hunted
Hunted by Meagan Spooner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was one of those books where i had to force myself to put it down after reading my allotted 50 pages a day, otherwise i would have sat and read the whole thing. It was THAT good.

I might be a little biased though because Beauty and the Beast is my second favorite Disney movie. [my first being The Aristocats, if youā€™re curious.]

Itā€™s not your normal retelling though, it gets dark and gritty at times because Beauty [Yeva, to be exact.] in this story is your hunter. Thereā€™s not a angry pitchfork mob. Yes, Beauty is the one hunting The Beast and i found that FLIPPING BAD. ASS. I was seriously convinced that she was going to kill him toward the end!

Review: The Seafarer's Kiss

The Seafarer's Kiss
The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julia Ember
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

THE LITTLE MERMAID RETELLING.
QUEER MERMAIDS.
NORSE MYTHOLOGY.

Ersel trying to figure out how Humans work is too cute
Loki The Trickster God is addressed with they/them pronouns and this pleases me greatly
Ersel is Ursula and not Ariel
FAT MC. FAT MC.

Ersel and Ragna hit each other [a huge no-no.] and even though Ragna is like ā€œI shouldnā€™t have done that.ā€ Ersel turns around and is like, ā€œYou punch better.ā€ and iā€™m just sat here like YOU DO NOT HIT YOUR LOVE INTEREST, WTF.

Review: Get It Together, Delilah!

Get It Together, Delilah!
Get It Together, Delilah! by Erin Gough
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I never knew this would be the Coffee Shop AU Fanfic come to life
This was originally titled The Flywheel, which is the place where Delilah works / manages for her father.
Delilahā€™s Dad is on a trip around the world working on getting over Delā€™s Mom, June having an affair.
Charlie (Delilahā€™s friend) is pretty cool. He’s like the wingman between Delilah and Rosa (Delilahā€™s interest.) He almost goes to jail for beating the shit out of a girlfriendā€™s father and ends up hiding out at Delilahā€™s flat for a while
Delilah tripping over herself whenever Rosa is around is so #relatable
DEL AND ROSA ARE HANGING OUT SCREEN PRINTING SHIRTS!!!
I can definitely feel Delā€™s frustration about dating someone in the closet.
Fuck Hamish. And not in the fun way.
I love when a bookā€™s title is mentioned within the book somewhere.

I’m so so so SO happy that Delilah and Rosa worked things out and ended up together in the end!! *pops confetti*

While Get It Together, Delilah! was super sweet and fluffy at times, it wasn’t all that lasting impressive but I’m slightly forgiving as this was Erin Gough‘s first novel.
